Bring the luxuriousness and the performance of Audi vehicles in their
topmost level and you'll definitely end up with the Audi S8. Sharing
the luxuriousness and all the other fine characteristics of the Audi
A8, which is the top luxury vehicle in Audi's vehicle line-up, the Audi
S8 is definitely plusher than all other Audi vehicles. But the Audi A8
becomes all too ordinary when compared to the S8, as the latter
definitely performs better than the former.
Introduced in the U.S. for the 2001 model year, the Audi S8
was the high performance model of Audi's top luxury vehicle, the Audi
A8. Actually based on the first generation Audi A8, the S8 shares most
of the top luxury model's components, including its all-aluminum space
frame and the Quattro all-wheel drive system. The external appearance
of the two cars are also essentially the same, except for a few
upgraded details on the Audi S8 like the its chrome door mirrors,
chrome-lined air intake, and the 18-inch alloy wheels that are
exclusive for the model.
Performance Audi S8 parts are also basically the same with
those of the Audi A8. For one, the Audi S8 makes use of the same
4.2-liter V8 used by the A8, although the S8's produces more power at
370 hp. There are also feature upgrades to be found on the suspension
system and braking system, like the aluminum sports suspension and the
electronic differential lock (EDL) feature on its brakes. All these
added features make the Audi S8 perform a lot better than the Audi A8.
The Audi S8 was produced and sold by Audi only up until the
2003 model year, after which the model was drop because the design of
the Audi A8 was given a revision. However, having a new Audi S8 and an
all new Audi RS8 in the future is not far from reality, as Forbes
magazine reported that the company really has plans to manufacture the
two cars. Should the two cars reach the production stage, it is
expected that the cars would be based on the second generation Audi A8.
