Maybe for some automobile manufacturers, the Chrysler Corporation is not considered
as a contender to beat but when it came up with its own top of the range vehicle
as far as its history is concerned, made it a complete turn-around. Among the
several models that compose the Chrysler vehicle line-up, only the Chrysler Imperial
had its own marque independent of its maker but not totally disassociated. It
recorded one of the most remarkable histories in the automotive world.
It was in the year 1926 when Chrysler made the Imperial, and for almost a couple
of decades after rested until it was produced again in 1946 until 1954 and had
its final revival years 1990 up to 1993. During its early years, Chrysler used
a straight-6 internal combustion engine as its power supplier, and was upgraded
to straight-8 engine by year 1931.
In 1955, unusual for any car model, the Chrysler Imperial dropped its maker's
name bearing only the name "Imperial" until 1975. It was then considered to be
Chrysler's prestige automobile brand because of its luxuriousness as the company
easily singled out the Imperial when it decided to spin off an independent luxury
brand. The Imperial also briefly reappeared in 1981 until 1983 but from 1976 up
to 1980, the Imperial name was not seen as a separate marque but was instead sold
as the Chrysler New Yorker.
In anyway, the Chrysler Corporation was able to put its name in the front line
as it attracted a great number of car adherents who are looking for an excellent
personal luxury car, and the company owes it to the Chrysler Imperial.
