The year it was introduced, Chrysler believed that the Dodge Rampage is a perfect vehicle. It is because Dodge Rampage provides high fuel efficiency and comes really inexpensive. But the buying public didn’t think that way so the Rampage experienced poor sales, which causes its production to end. That’s what Dodge Rampage is, Chrysler’s practical yet infamous truck.

Based on Chrysler’s L platform, the Dodge Rampage was introduced as a compact pickup truck. It is produced and marketed by Chrysler from 1982 to 1984 model years. Dodge Rampage was given an American stable counterpart named Plymouth Scamp. In fact, the Rampage and the Scamp come identical and were manufactured in the same year. But the production of the Scamp was stopped a year earlier.

The Dodge Rampage was patterned on the famous Plymouth Horizon and Dodge Omni. It was originally powered by a 2.2L carbureted straight-4 powerhouse when it debuted in 1982. This engine is capable of producing 96 horsepower and it has a curb weight of around 2400 lb. Its gentle performance upon introduction was provided by the 4-speed manual transmission.

The performance of Dodge Rampage was enhanced with the debut of a 5-speed manual transmission in 1983 model year. This truck boasts a load capacity of 1145 lb or 520 kg. Its major competitors in the market were the VW Rabbit Pickup, Chevrolet S10, Ford Ranger and Chevrolet El Camino.

No one would expect a good deal of power from the Dodge Rampage since its power source is a carbureted 4-cylinder engine. This could be one of the reasons why the sales of Dodge Rampage weren’t that successful. Because of its fuel efficiency and affordable price, the Dodge Rampage should have been an excellent choice during that period when oil prices were too high. It became popular on its first year but it immediately loses its charisma to the customers in the following year. This causes the disappearance of Dodge Rampage in 1984.
