Eagle 2000 gtx
The Eagle was an
automobile brand manufactured under the Jeep/Eagle Division of Chrysler
Corporation. The division was formed after Chrysler purchased American
Motors; the name Eagle was primarily taken from the AMC Eagle
which was the said to be the last domestically-designed vehicle of AMC.
Eagle vehicles were primarily marketed by AMC dealers along with Jeep
products. Though, the Jeep/Eagle division was short-lived, Chrysler was
able to manufacture several vehicles with outstanding designs and
features; among them the Eagle 2000GTX.
Primarily, the Eagle 2000GTX was a rebadged Mitsubishi Galant but was
purely sold in Canada. The '89 Galant was introduced as the 2000GTX
until it became the Eagle GTX in 1991 to 1993. It was then conceived as
the sporty alternative for the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The
2000GTX was available in three versions which includes the base,
Premium and the Premium DOHC. The base version was running with a 2.0
Litre four-cylinder engine that rated a quick 102 horsepower although
the other two versions were much quicker having a tweaked 2.0 Litre
four-banger engine rated at 135 horsepower. Aside from great
powerhouse, the GTX exudes nice features and equipments like the Active
Suspension System. This was designed to “feel” the road, adjust the
damping rates to improve handling. It also has a power steering that
you can change from Normal to Sport; if you prefer some sportier appeal
sometimes.
The Eagle 2000GTX was considered a smart car during its time
considering the features and equipments it offered; it was
sophisticated with such an affordable price. But that's not all; in
1990, an all-wheel drive version of the 2000GTX was introduced.
Describing the 2000GTX, it was a vehicle that features more room and
comfort. It was then available with a four-speed automatic
transmission. Indeed, the Eagle 2000GTX has lots of good features
outstanding for its times; however, since the marketing budget of
Chrysler Canada for manufacturing the 2000GTX never materialized, it
disappeared from the line-up in 1994.
