Ford Tempo is just among the many excellent automobile belonging to the Ford car line-up. It was launched in 1984 as a midsize car offered in coupe and sedan body styles. It was believed to be similar with the Mercury Topaz. The Tempo and the Topaz were the early illustrations of the design philosophy that bring about the revolutionary Ford Taurus way back in 1986. Both model shared Ford Escort’s lengthened platform.

The year it was introduced, front wheel drive and a 4-speed manual transmission were standard and the “ATX” or the 3-speed automatic transaxle is offered as an option. The Tempo received a minor redesign in 1986. As a result, a 5-speed manual became standard and the US models received standard Central Fuel Injection or CFI while models marketed in Canada utilized a 1 barrel carburetor. A major redesign was done in 1988 making the Tempo look like the Ford Taurus. The diesel engine was significantly replaced by a MPFI or Multi-Port Fuel Injection which comes standard on the gas straight-4 engine.

Ford Tempo was built in Oakville, Ontario Canada and in Kansas City, MO. It belonged to the top five selling sedan in North America in the late 1980s and the early 1990s. The tempo also tied with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry for the first place in J.D. powers and Associates initial quality survey in 1992 model year. The production of Ford Tempo was stopped in 1994 to give way to the 1995 Ford Contour.
