Some people opt to have a pickup truck because of its versatility. A pickup truck is best described as a light truck with an open-top cargo area with fairly short rigid sides and an opening rear gate. They vary in different configurations and body styles. There are the standard cab pickups which has a single row of seats and a single set of doors, one on each side. While the extended or super cab pickups add an extra space behind the main seat by reclining the front bench back. There is also four-door pickup which is known as the crew cab. It has a seating capacity of up to six people on two full benches and full-size front-hinged doors on both sides. And there are many other types of pickup trucks; this includes the compact pickup truck, the S15 pickup which came from General Motors.

The GMC S15 pickup truck is a sister model to the Chevrolet S10 pickup. Today, the GMC S15 pickup is more likely called the GMC Sonoma. It officially became the GMC Sonoma in 1991. When the GMC S15 became the GMC Sonoma, it also received a facelift with regards to its packaging. A new grille, a reliable wheel, bodyside moldings, and bumper rub strips. Plus it holds a 4-cylinder or V6 engine. Its year after year changes includes the addition of the pushbutton shifting on 1992 4WD models, and head restraints became standard for outboard bench seats.

The Sonoma or S15 was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from the year 1996 up to the year 2000. It also came with an SUV version; they are the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer and the GMC S-15 Jimmy. All of these are often referred to as the S-series. However, the new models Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and the Isuzu i-Series replaced these S-series in 2004.
