The ever impressive Jeep Cherokee has been a staple in the automotive industry for many years now. It started making waves in 1974 as the SJ, a sporty two-door variant of the station wagon. In 1984, its XJ variant came to be known as the first unibody Jeep. The continuing popularity of the Jeep Cherokee paved the way for its resurrection after being replaced by the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

 

The Jeep Cherokee is essentially an SUV. It had been a full-size sports utility vehicle when it first became available in the automobile market. Everything, however, changed in 1984 with the introduction of XJ. What once was a mirror image of both the Jeep Wagoneer and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer became the epitome of the modern SUV – a vehicle that is a cross between a station wagon and a truck.

 

The Jeep Cherokee boasts of features that have made it one of the most preferred vehicles in its category. Included in these features are several breaking system enhancements meant to deliver safety, durability and performance. An integrated anti-lock breaking system is employed by the Jeep Cherokee to be able to provide itself with the wheel lockup needed in descending steep sand or gravel hills. Driver and passenger front air bags that equip the vehicle are designed in a way that would allow passengers to be safe enough in case of crashes and collisions.

 

Today, the Jeep Cherokee lives on as the compact SUV called Jeep Liberty, the first Jeep vehicle to boast of an independent suspension. Critics say that the vehicle itself represents the perfect balance between capability and agility. What is special about it is that in city streets, it is capable of offering its passengers an unbelievably comfortable ride. Off-road, however, it has the capability to perform like a daredevil as it handles bumps and trails with little or no effort at all.
