Introduced in 1974 as, the Mercedes Benz 230 D was a diesel-powered variant of
the W115 chassis. It was complete with luxury features like heated seats, cruise
control, leather seats, and a powered sunroof in a price four times higher than
the regular vehicle at that time. It was powered by a 4-cylinder, 2.4 liter engine
that produced 67 hp. The Mercedes-Benz 240 D 3.0 meanwhile was a first five-cylinder
diesel-engined passenger car from large-scale production. It was a high performance
and reliable vehicle certified to give a smooth ride with efficiency and the most
dynamic and fastest diesel-engined car in the world which sold for a total of
53,690 units between October 1974 and November 1976.
