Oldsmobile Silhouette
The first generation of the Oldsmobile Silhouette started to come out into the market in 1989 as its first and 990 model until 1995 wherein an unconventional styling was seen through as a disadvantage to the perception of the automotive industry due to its minimal sales and appeal to the finicky tastes of the consumers. Oldsmobile Silhouette are vans that are based on a U platform or minivan which consisted of wrapped galvanized steel space frame in composite plastic body panels. This material used in it body panel was an advantage because this proved to be resistant to any rust as well as from slight dents or dings.
These vans from Oldsmobile are featured with five lightweight rear seats that can be reconfigured and removed according to the occupant's desire which can accommodate persons of up to 7. The first engine that powered Oldsmobile Silhouette was a meager 3.1-liter V6, 120-horsepower. Later years of production, these vans received a higher version of the engine producing higher torque and better acceleration in the form of 170hp, 3.8-liter 3800 V6. This enabled the model to be tagged as the most powerful and the best handling vans at the time.
Succeeding models produced were seen with significant alterations which primarily evident with its body. General Motors re-styled the vehicle into a lower and sleeker look with its large and long, sloped windshield. With the considerably fair “fare” of the Oldsmobile Silhouette stance in the market, production for the first generation is ended in 1996. It was replaced with a redesigned bodies in 1997. reception of the public with the newly-born Oldsmobile Silhouette was much better than the first generation probably because this new version is a conventional one. The reign of this model from Oldsmobile ended, however, in 2004, as with the Oldsmobile division from GM was also shut down.
