The word "vista" means view and the word "cruiser" was used by Oldsmobile in the 1960s and 1970s to name their station wagon models. So if you combine these two words to describe an Oldsmobile vehicle, then you'll end up with…a viewable station wagon? Of course a station wagon can be viewed! The Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, however, was a station wagon that provides the passenger a good view of everything outside the vehicle.
The Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser was a mid-size station wagon that was manufactured and sold by Oldsmobile from 1964 thru 1977. The vehicle was basically a station wagon version of the mid-size Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan. Before the full-size Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser was introduced in 1971, the Vista Cruiser served as Oldsmobile's offering in the upper-class station wagon market. All Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser models manufactured from 1964 to 1977 were equipped with Oldsmobile's powerful V8 engines, thus enabling them to perform excellently on the road.
Among the clearly visible features that the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser is equipped with are its wide rear windows that wraps into the vehicle's roof. Also featured on 1964 to 1972 models of the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser are glass sunroofs that extend from the rear seats all the way to the back of the station wagon. This extensive use of glasses set the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser apart from all other station wagons produced during the period. It is also probably because of these windows and sunroof that Oldsmobile named the vehicle Vista Cruiser.
Today, the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser is but one of those many Oldsmobile classic cars that reminds us of the '60s and '70s. Many Vista Cruiser owners today, however, claim that their station wagons are still very capable on the road and can even be driven comfortably at speeds in excess of 100 mph. This Oldsmobile classic, however, would perform better if properly restored and equipped with the various restoration and repair Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser parts.
