If one would trace the origin of minivans, he’d end up looking on the details of Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country and Plymouth Voyager. These are the three vehicles which became the root of the successful modern minivan segment. They were not actually the very first minivans created in the face of the vehicle world, but the remarkable standards and innovations brought in by them expanded the quality of performance and ride in the category.
The American car market is expected to give out futuristic and dream cars just like all other markets, and the versatile Plymouth Voyager are among the minivans that struck the world. It has got ample space for cargo and passengers, plus performance and power that are comparable to large sedans. Plymouth Voyager was introduced in North America in 1984 and lasted until 2000, which might actually have lived until this very generation if only Chrysler decided not to dissolve the brand. Another Voyager came out in 1987, a version with longer wheelbase called the Grand Voyager.
Through the years, Chrysler has given the Plymouth Voyager upgrades and redesigns. Along with these redesigns are brand new and innovative features that were totally non-existent with the competing minivans from Ford and GM. Originally based on the Chrysler S platform, the Plymouth Voyager was shifted to the AS platform in 1992 and to the NS platform in 1996. Among the standard and optional features that the changes brought is the all-wheel drive system, the extended-length trim, side sliding door and seats with rollers for easy removal, all firsts in the minivan category. In its last year of production, Plymouth Voyager was available with a choice of either a 3.0-liter V6 or a 3.3-liter V6, coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
Dissolving Plymouth brand in the Chrysler lineup means also losing number of production of Plymouth aftermarket parts which could actually account to creating problems for Plymouth owners. But the sea of manufacturers all over the world assures enough supply. Thus finding replacement Plymouth Voyager parts and other aftermarket products such as OEM, factory and custom Plymouth Voyager parts still is easy.
