Before the Boxster came out, Porsche has documented a number of infuriating issues. Actually, in early 1993, Porsche was ruined, struggling to survive as an independent car maker. But Porsche never gave up. So, in late 1996, they have released a convertible sports car, the Porsche Boxster which showed the public a vision of good driving things to come.
The name Boxster comes from the combination of the words “boxer” and “roadster”. The vehicle wowed the world because the Porsche Boxster was and remains a light, agile, responsive, wonderfully balanced example of what smart engineers can do when they set about refining technology that is already proven to work - and work well.
When the Porsche Boxster arrived as a production model, it joined a trio of fresh and amusing German roadsters – the BMW’s Z3 and the Mercedes Benz’ SLK. But of the three, the Porsche Boxster was the most dynamic and the most meticulously crafted. Throughout its production, it has been Porsche’s smallest and least expensive sports car model.
The Porsche Boxster was designed with a mid-mounted engine that builds for near-perfect balance and that in turn makes the Boxster a treat to drive. The two-seats and the folding cloth roof have always put its emphasis on the kind of driving experience true enthusiasts long for.
The horsepower of the Boxster was rated at 201 at the beginning. That was only at the beginning, but today, with the Boxster S, with an enlarged 3.2-liter engine, it produces 258 bhp. With these details, it’s now clear why the Porsche Boxster has been in Car and Driver magazine’s annual Ten Best list six times.
