Just entering its third year in the economy compact car segment, the Suzuki Forenza is clearly still in the period of establishing a name in the particular market segment. But with established names like the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla as its prime competitors, and with other very competitive vehicles like the Nissan Sentra, Mazda 3, Kia Spectra and the Hyundai Elantra populating the segment, does the Suzuki compact car have a chance to last in the segment? Such thing is definitely too early to tell. One thing's sure though—this is an uphill battle for the Suzuki Forenza.
The Suzuki Forenza is a compact car introduced by the company and its partner, General Motors, in 2004. The car was basically a rebadged Daewoo Nubira, renamed by General Motors after the corporation bought the Daewoo Motor Company. Upon introduction, the vehicle was only available in 4-door sedan body style, although a 4-door station wagon shortly followed for the 2005 model year. Currently, the vehicle is being sold in three trim levels: in base S, mid-level LX and upscale EX; each trim level offering an array of features not normally expected for their price.
For the 2005 model year, all Suzuki Forenza models are equipped with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that outputs 125 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque. The engine may not seem impressive but it proves sufficient especially if matched with the manual transmission standard on both the S and LX trims. The engine, however, needs more refinement for the vehicle to compete well with its segment rivals. The vehicle's gas mileage of 22/30 mpg (hwy/city) is decent but definitely inferior in the economy compact car segment.
Although the Suzuki Forenza lags behind in power, refinement and fuel efficiency, all is well compensated by the vehicle's other features. The Suzuki Forenza is loaded with standard features that one won't normally find in vehicles priced as low. Even the standard features in the base model appears more than sufficient, which includes body color bumpers and door handles, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, side airbags, eight-speaker stereo with CD player and steering wheel audio controls, and power windows, mirrors and door locks. All of these equipments surely spell value for the car.
The appearance of the Suzuki Forenza may not appeal with you well, but its more-than-the-usual share of features should be more than enough to give the car a consideration. After all, Suzuki Forenza performance may still be improved by equipping it with the various high-performance Suzuki Forenza parts available in the market today.
