Suzuki X-90 injected its prowess behind an extremely unique body styling. The vehicle noticeably hides its length with a façade that reflects of a pickup. It came to be a rounded two-door half pickup- half sedan-bodied automobile. But the real concept was a sport utility vehicle existing within small dimensions, a combination of sports coupe, convertible and sport utility vehicle. The frame was actually borrowed from the short-wheelbase Suzuki Sidekick. The X-90 was marketed for two years beginning 1996. The company expected that it would hit the young market and stir something out of the industry with the kind of innovation. But to Suzuki’s dismay, the X-90 was just stuck within the list of uniquely crafted vehicles. For in truth, the SUV market needs big platforms that could compensate true capability for conquering tough jobs.
The engineering of Suzuki X-90 displayed a two-seater cockpit underneath a T-top with a truck behind resting on either a two- or four-wheel drive chassis. A four speed automatic transmission on the four-wheel and a five speed manual transmission on the two-wheel harnesses the power generated from 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine. The powertrain was also borrowed from the Suzuki Sidekick. This gave the X-90 the same off-road capabilities as the sidekick, but the X-90 was designed with sporty components more in the mind.
The four-wheel and two-wheel drive Suzuki X-90s were both endowed wth standard equipments like power windows and locks, power steering, dual airbags, alloy wheels, and intermittent wipers, four-wheel antilock brakes and daytime running lights. Upgrade to the four-wheel trim and you’ll get extras such as cruise control, a security alarm, and a 4-speaker stereo with cassette player. Though some options maybe added to the base trim and could be dealer installed. No significant changes were done with the X-90 in its short lived production life. Short lived it is, but Suzuki X-90 somehow marked a part in the industry’s history and gave the company valuable experience.
