There’s nothing sweeter than achieving success in the field where one has put almost all of his life. All the efforts and time poured in it are complemented. With what Toyota Motors Corporation has now reached in the automotive industry, taking the slot of being the world’s third largest vehicle manufacturer, success can be defined by no words at all. In every model that it has released for different segments, authenticity and sophistication are attached by the name. And to keep such success shining amidst the tough competition in the auto world, the company is continuously improving its creations. One factor that it has been focusing with is the emissions control, so to bring more environment friendly Toyota models.

Benefiting from the use of a device called oxygen sensor, the Toyotas are more capable of creating less harmful exhaust gases. This type of sensor is responsible of ensuring perfect fuel, hydrogen and carbon ratio. It monitors the oxygen content in order for the computer to adjust the amount of fuel that’s going to enter the engine for balancing. Perfect ratio though varies depending on the engine type. An oxygen sensor is a hollow tube that’s being inserted into the exhaust manifold. The tube is divided in three compartments by a U-shaped platinum-coated rod. This platinum generates electrical signal that responds according to different oxygen contents. From there, the computer receives the signal and acts for necessary adjustments. If the Toyota oxygen sensor is able to execute its job well, the result will be lesser toxic pollutants, better mileage and good performance. The other way around would create black smoke, rotten egg smell, poor mileage and even lead to engine damage.

Operationally, the oxygen sensor also called as O2 sensor, lambda probe, lambda sensor, lambda sond and EGO sensor checks the red-hot exhaust hundreds of times per minute. In the process, it generates voltage utilized to determine if the mixture is lean or rich, and adjust the amount of fuel that’s going to enter. Toyota oxygen sensors sensing ability is normally affected by altitude, air and engine temperature, barometric pressure, engine loads and some other aspects. When lesser air is present than that of perfect ratio, the exhaust system would fail to burn all the fuel. The mixture produced with the kind of ratio is called rich mixture which results to pollution. And if there’s more air in the combustion, the mixture is considered as lean mixture. Imbalance on both mixtures would lead to poor performance of the emissions control system.
