An American could probably name three minivan models when asked to enumerate Toyota van names. One could surely name the Toyota Sienna, the company’s current minivan offering. The Toyota Previa, a minivan cum Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) that the Sienna replaced, can also be easily named. Another would be the Toyota Hi-Ace, Toyota’s affordable minivan. Aside from these three, an Asian would also probably name the Toyota WISH, a brand new minivan sold only in some parts of Asia. But rarely would you hear someone mention the Toyota Van.

Before the great minivans of Toyota that we know today were introduced, there existed a Toyota minivan that was simply called or named the Toyota Van. In fact, the vehicle model was sold or imported to the U.S. for a number of years, specifically from 1983 to 1989. A four-wheel drive (4WD) version of the van was also introduced in the U.S. in 1986 and was sold until the models demise in 1989. The Toyota Van, especially the 4WD models, has some outstanding and distinctive features that made it quite competitive during its time.

For the last few years that the Toyota Van was sold in the U.S., the model was available in two basic trim levels, the DLX and the LE trim levels. Both trim levels features a four-wheel drive version often referred to as the DLX 4WD and the LE 4WD trim levels. All models were equipped with a 2.2-liter inline-type 4-cylinder engine that outputs 101 horsepower and some 133 ft-lb of torque. Except for the LE 4WD trim, the standard transmission unit is a 5-speed manual with overdrive while a 4-speed automatic unit (also with overdrive) is offered as an option. The LE 4WD trim is available only with the 4-speed automatic transmission (with overdrive) unit.

Today, most people see the Toyota Van as a thing of the past, if ever they still would remember or know the model. Most people today even know nothing about the minivan. And as you can rarely find someone who knows the van, so would you rarely find a source for its parts. Good thing though is that the Internet provides you with many online sources for Toyota Van parts.
