Affordability is the first thing that you would probably think about the Volkswagen due to its historical origin as the people’s car. Aside from affixing that identity, Volkswagen models also are identifiable of other traits. The Volkswagen Cabriolet has been known for reaching the “cult” status.
Built through the fused abilities of German and Italian designers and engineers as well as advances of technology, the Volkswagen Cabriolet was brought to reality and lasted for over fifty years in the market. The first Cabriolet was called as the Beetle Cabriolet. It came out in the last part of 1940s as one of the two top prototypes of Volkswagen along with the Rdclyffe Roadster. The Beetle Cabriolet or what the Germans called as the Kafer Cabriolet was the four-seat convertible version.
Basically the Beetle Cabriolet was based on the standard Beetle model, featuring rear-mounted air-cooler engine. Front-mounted air-cooled engine soon came unto the engineering of Volkswagen. Cabriolet was the first car to have this design integrated. This unit is definitely different from the Beetle-based model, for it’s the popular all time best selling Volkswagen convertible. Cabriolet came with roll bars that include Euro bumpers, ground effects, 4-headlight grilles, and hydraulic valves.
Essential changes and upgrades were given to the Cabriolet in order to keep its competitive with other brands, including its name. The name change happened only to the Golfs and Jettas in United States in 1984. These two had a name that’s Cabriolet alone. It has also improved its safety features’ capabilities so to provide extensive driving confidence. Other major transitions were evident both in its cosmetic features and performance power. Right from the interior moldings until bolt-on body works, transitions were very noticeable. And as expected, such dedication of improving the products became very helpful in achieving respect from rivals and car enthusiasts.
